DIMAPUR, JUNE 25: The Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organized a daylong regional workshop with the theme “My country is changing–Marching forward” in the conference hall of the Circuit House in Kohima town on June 25. The event coincided with the launch of a special outreach program to highlight ‘two years achievement’ of the government of India.
The programme section of the directorate of Field Publicity of Kohima issued a press release on Saturday offering updates about the event.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, RM Patel, the director of Postal Services, Department of Post, said that the role of a service-providing department such as the DFP and postal departments was vital in ensuring the success of any government welfare schemes. Service-providing departments act as a bridge between the people and government schemes, he said.
Pointing out that the central government had launched various schemes to cater to different sections of society including women and farmers, he exhorted the DFP to create ‘meaningful publicity’ so that the needy and eligible beneficiaries would be empowered.
Also, Dr. HP Singh, the principal of Modern College, underscored the need to empower youth with skills in order to meet the challenges of growing unemployment and poverty in the state. In his speech, he maintained that the majority of India’s population constitute individuals in the age bracket of 20-to-40 years. The need of the hour, the principal siad, is to train youths in various skills. The central government is moving towards the ‘right direction by launching the skill India scheme,’ he added.
Addressing the gathering as the president of the function, Dominic Yazokie, the joint director of the Information & Public Relations (IPR) department, said that the IPR’s role was equally important as it empowered the common people with information and knowledge. He said that the DFP and other similar media departments were agents of knowledge ‘wherein their contribution is mental and intellectual,’ he said.
In his keynote address, Dr. Engam Pame, the director of the DFP (Nagaland and Manipur) region, said that the inputs from resource persons about various subjects and relevant themes will effectively equip and educate field officers.
He informed that the DFP would be reaching out to the people living at the grassroot and ‘micro levels’ by carrying out intensive awareness campaigns about the ‘two years of achievement’ of the central government in Nagaland and Manipur.
During the technical session, resource persons Zubemo Lotha, the assistant director for Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship; Daniel Domeh, a system administrator of the department of Postal Services; Bino, a district welfare officer with the department of social welfare, presented an overview of their respective department’s work. Also, they answered queries from the gathering during the event.
