Dimapur, April 22 (EMN): The week was usual for the Dimapur enforcement: stolen bikes and pikes who steal. On April 22 the Dimapur police’s public relations officer offered updates about enforcement activities in and around the commercial district of the state.
First in the list was a case of goat and bikes initially: On April 20, a team of policemen led by deputy superintendent of police Nokin apprehended two persons allegedly for ‘stealing a goat.’ The administration’s press release identified the apprehended individuals to be one Akaho Aye and a Ghunaka Achumi, named for ‘stealing a goat’ at Viola colony in Dimapur.
However, during the course of investigation, the police informed, the two accused revealed that they had actually stolen a motorbike and had sold it at Niuland.
‘Accordingly, police party along with the accused proceeded to Niuland and recovered one M/Bike B/R No. NL07E7180 from accused identified as Tokheho. In this connection a case has been registered and investigation,’ the press release added. Talking of bikes, the next that fell into the police’s dragnet was a case of kidnapping. On April 17, a driver named Rafique Islam was kidnapped along with his Tata Mobile (NL07A/6034) by four unidentified individuals allegedly on the pretext of hiring his vehicle.
‘The vehicle was taken to Khushiabill (Miya Bazaar) and looted all his belongings (cash INR 6000, two mobile handsets).
The driver was beaten mercilessly and demanded INR 10,00,000 as ransom for his release,’ the police stated. “Fortunately, the driver managed to escape and reported the matter. Accordingly, Dimapur police swung into action and arrested one namely Babul one of the accused person. In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is going on,” the police added.
In another case, this one on the 21st, a Special Operation Team of Dimapur police arrested one extortionist. He was identified to be one Akato Sumi, a 25-year old from Mikhami village in Zunheboto, and a resident of Burma Camp in Dimapur.
He was arrested for extorting money from the business community at Golaghat Road near the Tragopan junction in the city, the police stated.
INR 4630 was seized from the possession of the accused and a complaint was lodged with East Police Station for further investigation, the press release stated.
