[dropcap]B[/dropcap]ILL AND HILLARY CLINTON welcomed a brand new Democrat into the fold on Saturday — by sharing the first pictures of their only grandchild.
Chelsea Clinton gave birth Friday night to Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky — sure to be used as a talking point when Hillary hits the campaign trail.
The dad is Chelsea’s husband, hedge-funder Marc Mezvinsky.
Little Charlotte was fashionably dressed for her first photo shoot in a pink-and-blue-striped white blanket and a pink knit cap with a floppy bow. Her granddad sent the baby her very first tweet, although she probably won’t have her own Twitter account for at least another week.
It read, “Your grandmother @HillaryClinton and I couldn’t be happier.’’
Chelsea tweeted, “At 7:03 PM on September 26th, we finally met Charlotte. We’re in love.’’
And Hillary chimed in with this tweet: “@BillClinton and I are over the moon to be grandparents! One of the happiest moments of our life.’’
Hillary has already decided the baby’s first book will be the kids’ classic “Goodnight Moon.”
Hillary, the former first lady who also served as president Obama’s secretary of state, had said she’d wait until she became a grandmother before deciding whether to run again for president in 2016.
And for the former president, Charlotte’s arrival gave him an excuse to postpone a fund-raising trip to Denver.
“I hope I get an excused absence,’’ he said. “You all know my family just got a little bigger and I figure I should stay home where I’m really needed.”
