Dimapur, Oct. 28 (EMN): Thahekhu Village Council (TVC) has imposed restrictions on plying of heavy vehicles along the village approach road.
The regulation was issued after observing that many heavy vehicles continue to use the village approach road thus endangering the life span of the road despite notification to take the State PWD road entering from left side of Thahekhu tower junction while coming from Dhobinalla side and exit at GHS Thahekhu vice versa for those approaching from Rangapahar Railway Crossing side.
In view of this, the TVC along with GBs, Thahekhu Village Students’ Union and other frontal bodies of the village deployed volunteers at various intersections of the village on Friday to monitor the movement of heavy vehicles and directing them to the specified route.
The specified route for heavy vehicles falls under the purview of the State PWD. However, the TVC and Thahekhu VDB have been annually maintaining the road with its limited resources.
It may also be noted that following the damage of bridge at Nagarjan, vehicles both light and heavy ones plying along Rangapahar Railway Crossing via Thahekhu village has increased in multiples worsening the already dire condition of the road. Additionally, the recent partial caving in of culvert at Khashiram near The Maple Tree School has compelled heavy vehicles of the Army to take Thahekhu route adding to worsening of the road.
In this regard, TVC has appealed the responsible department to maintain the road, which it had neglected for the last 10-15 years, since the increased number of vehicles plying within the village is likely to gravely damage the road.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, the village authorities has urged the responsible department to give due importance to the road at the earliest failing which it cautioned to close the route for public if the road is not accorded timely and decent maintenance.
Meanwhile, TVC has requests the commuters playing within the village road to comply with the speed limit and cooperate with the village authorities. Further, the TVC also informed about the free public toilets and urinals constructed at various locations along the route.
