Dimapur, Dec. 7 (EMN): Tetso Olympics, the annual sports meet of Tetso College, kicked off on Wednesday at Sovima, Chumoukedima.

Advisor to the chief minister, Abu Metha, who was the special guest, inaugurated a futsal ground and cricket pitch, sponsored by Nagaland Cricket Association, as part of the opening day inauguration programme.

Dr. Hewasa L Khing, Principal, Tetso College, encouraged those students who have never taken part in games and sports to go out of one’s comfort zone and participate in the events.

A total of six teams — Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Saturn, Mercury and Neptune — are competing in the three-day event this year.

Also in attendance was Amit Sengupta, Head of Press and Communications, British High Commission, Kolkata office.

A message from Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) was delivered by Hyunilo Anilo Khing, Secretary, NCA, who shared greetings from the Association and highlighted the growing cricket scenario in Nagaland. He encouraged and requested the college to include cricket in the next edition.

Encouraging the students, Abu Metha said, “Tetso College is an inspiration that stands out not just in Nagaland but I think is one of the best higher education institutions in the whole of the Northeast. It is an institution that thinks out of the box with progressive leadership and the achievements of the students proves that this institution keeps pushing the envelope, keeps pushing boundaries,” he maintained.

He also encouraged all the students to work hard to achieve their goals, aims and dreams. “This is the time to dream, it is now to strive for dreams and aspirations. Invest your efforts to develop your skills and do not deny the opportunities that come in our lives,” he added.

The oath taking ceremony was administered by Nepoleon Keisham, Coordinator, Tetso Olympic Committee.
