Dimapur, January 6

The  Tenyiphe-1 Youth Organisation  kicked off  its 39th Annual Sports  meet today at the village play ground with Rusovil John,  Member Secretary, Nagaland Pollution Control Board as the chief guest. The first event on the opening ceremony day was Naga Wrestling, where the Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories participated. Other events to be followed over the next days are athletics and games both for men and women and on the final day there will be an exhibition match between the youth organization and council members.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Rusovil John stated that sport & games is a very important activity in a youth life, whereby it improves ones physical health, self-esteem, disciplines and mental state. Instead of participating in all the events, he encouraged the youth to take up a specific event and build it in to a professional career. He cited the example of tribal women from the North –East India who had taken sports as their career and brought many laurels to the country namely MC Mary Kom, the Olympic boxer from Manipur and Chekrovolu Swuro, the archery expertise  from Nagaland. He asserted that players from other States prayerfully entered the play field by touching the ground whereas our Naga players are very causal, one must be spiritually involved and seek God’s blessing before any events, he added. Finally, he said that as enshrined in the TYO motto “United we Stand” he appealed to  the villagers to be united and move forward in all the fields.
The opening ceremony programme was chaired by Neibulie Punuii while the invocation prayer was led by Pastor Keneile-o Neikha followed by welcome address by TVC Chairman Khriebulie Peseyie and oath taking by Ruokuobelie Kire. Folk dance and special number were presented by Tenyiphe-1 Melophita Kro and The Awesome Trio respectively.
