Dimapur, March 6 (EMN): Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) has appealed to the chief minister of Nagaland to review the rates of public transport services as the state government had already issued relaxations with regard to commercial, social and religious activities.
The union has appealed to the government through a letter on Saturday to review the fare at the earliest and strengthen the public trust. It also warned that it would be forced to resort to democratic forms of protest along with its constituent units if their pleas are not heard within seven days of receiving the letter’.
The president of TSUD, Rukewezo Wetsah, said at a press conference in Dimapur on Saturday that the union would initially take up a ‘symbolic’ protest if the government doesn’t respond within seven days of receiving its letter, before taking the protest to the streets.
Stating that many, especially students depend on public transport as not everyone has the luxury of owning a vehicle, he appealed to all the like-minded citizens and organisations to join them.
Wetsah informed that TSUD had approached the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan on January 14 regarding the issue but only ‘verbal assurance was given’. He added that it appealed to the government to review the SOPs imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic, citing the example of Meghalaya, to ‘bring down the rates’.
Meanwhile, the president of Dimapur District Auto Drivers’ Union, had reportedly told the TSUD that they had to follow the SOPs issued by the government and can’t change it.
Meanwhile, the union has thanked Governor RN Ravi for assuring to set up a Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children lab (CCPWC) cum training centre and cyber cells in all the districts to investigate into cyber crimes. It also stated in a letter to the governor that it had appealed to the deputy chief minister and DGP Nagaland to set up cyber cells in Dimapur with necessary facilities.
‘Till then, the victims had to go to Kohima even to lodge an FIR related to cyber cases and your work will immensely benefit every innocent victim and citizen,’ read TSUD’s letter to Ravi.
