Dimapur, March 14 (EMN):
The Tenyimi Students’ Union of Dimapur hosted a literary competition with the theme ‘Exploring talents’ on March 14 at Immanuel college auditorium hall in Dimapur.

Speaking during the occasion as the event’s special guest, the project director of the Task Force Music and Arts (Tafma), Dr Hovithal Sothu urged the young people to value their time. He said successful people are those who know how to manage time.

Sothu told the gathering that it’s time to ask where they are headed toward, and advised that the only way to get more work hours is to sleep a ‘little less.’ He added that ‘successful people are those who study for eight to nine hours in a day.’

‘There is no alternative to success except hard work,’ he said.

Further, the Tafma director urged the young people to decide what they wish to become in future and to work hard to be successful. He advised the gathering to choose their careers now before it is too late.

‘Know what to become and know how to become, and know how to use it to earn a living,’ he added. He said that men somehow used to bulldoze their way and survived. However, for women who do not become ‘successful they become a homemaker but those days are over.’

There already is raw talent in Nagaland, Sothu said.  All they have to do is to polish the talents in order for them to become professionals. One important aspect to becoming a professional artist is ‘to know how to read music notes,’ the gathering was told. Well-established musicians are being paid ‘good money,’ he asserted and advised artists to work towards excellence and professionalism in whatever they do ‘and the world is their stage.’

Further, Sothu advised the young people to be aware of ‘the negative things in the society,’ and to stary away from them. He added that life is not a bed of roses, and that there were lots of challenges. But keep in mind that it is not the end of the road, he said.

In other matters, he advised the gathering to be aware of the Covid 19 and to maintain personal hygiene but be prepared to tackle the situation.

The literary competition focused on art, essay writing, a solo singing competition and an extemporary speech competition. Wikedon of the Zeliang Students’ Union of Dimapur (ZSUD) was declared the winner of the solo singing competition, Lungyigumle of the ZSUD the first runner-up. Idasing from Salt Christian College took the first place in the art competition while Kazhüso Chache from the Mao Students’ Union Dimapur (MSUD) and Kazhüso Chache from the MSUD took the first and second runner-up prizes, respectively.

In the extempore speech competition, Ashene Latsa Tüomai (PSUD) took the first place and Khrorite-u of the CSUD took the runner-up prize.

Maneni A from the MSUD was declared the winner of the essay writing competition. Ashenile Seb from the Dimapur Government College and Lungsangprule of the ZSUD took the first and second runner-up prize respectively
