Dimapur, Feb. 17: Tension has gripped along Assam-Nagaland border area in Jorhat district following threats by some armed miscreants to the residents of Hoolungooree Tea Estate bordering Nagaland recently.
On receipt of the information, team of Border Peace Coordination Committee of Assam-Nagaland (BPCC (A-N) visited Hoolungooree Tea Estate on February 15 to take stock of the situation. It was learned that four armed miscreants had warned about 8-9 persons to desist from cultivating the land without paying taxes with an amount ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000.
In 2016, an unidentified group of people attempted to create tension on some residents of Hoolungooree Tea Estate on the Nagaland border in Jorhat district, who were either cultivating the land or collecting firewood.
The Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) took stock of the situation of 2016 and expressed desire for discussion involving people around the area for mutual benefit and avoiding recurrences of such incidents.
To arrest the situation, BPCC (A-N) president BP Bora and the vice president Imsu Jamir have sought required logistics from the government, public and well wishers. To ensure understanding of both conflicting sides through interactions towards economic and social benefits, BPCC (A-N) is endeavouring to bring desired results by stopping such re-ignition of tension along the interstate border areas.
BPCC (A-N) further appealed to all concerned to keep away from all such activities that might affect peace coordination on Assam-Nagaland border and deteriorate age old good relations of Assam and Nagaland.
