Fast & Furious 7 became the first film of 2015 to break the $1 billion barrier and has, so far, taken $1.520 billion at the global box office.
The film has been inching closer to Avengers Assemble’s box office gross of $1,518 billion and has now taken the third spot behind Avatar and Titanic. Just how close the film can get to the $2 billion barrier remains to be seen.Fast & Furious 7 came out just over a year after the untimely death of Paul Walker in a car accident. The movie is dedicated to the actor and fans flocked to see his final on screen performance.
The movie saw many familiar faces return to the cast list, with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Michelle Rodriguez all on board. Jason Statham and Kurt Russell were two of the big new additions to the cast list.
It has already been a great year at the box office with three films have grossed over $1 billion; Avengers: Age of Ultron and Jurassic World have also enjoyed that success.
Fast & Furious 7 did become the fastest film to gross $1 billion earlier this year, but saw that record eclipsed by Jurassic World this week.
It took Jurassic World just thirteen days to reach this milestone - Fast 7 did it in seventeen days.
Fast 7 currently leads the way as the highest grossing film of 2015, but Avenger: Age of Ultron is in second on $1,368 billion and Jurassic World is in third with $1,050 billion.
