MOKOKCHUNG — In an effort to curb criminal activities, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, inaugurated a temporary police outpost in Ungma village on Wednesday, while the dedicatory prayer was said by Temjen, pastor of PBC DEF Mokokchung.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Kezo disclosed that a total of 21 criminal cases have been registered within its jurisdiction, thereby leading to the arrest of 85 persons involved in serious offences, including extortion, drug trafficking, smuggling of liquor and vehicle accidents over the past three years.
He stated that the creation of the outpost was a reflection of the department’s commitment to enhancing safety, improving access to justice and fostering closer cooperation with the community.
He stated that the police outpost was aimed at enabling faster emergency responses, more effective patrolling and better surveillance of crime-prone areas, serving as a deterrent to criminal elements while boosting public confidence in law enforcement.

Kezo stressed that the outpost is not just a symbol of authority but a "house of service", where every officer is tasked with protecting citizens’ rights and dignity with fairness and empathy.
He urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and people-centric policing while seeking continued support from village councils of Ungma, Settsu, Aolijen, Mangmetong and Longkhum to nurture law and order as a shared responsibility.
Expressing gratitude, Kezo acknowledged the government, police headquarters, district administration and village councils for making the project a reality. He particularly appreciated Sharingain Longkumer, NLA Speaker, for securing government approval and providing land and a new building, without which the initiative would not have materialised.
