DIMAPUR — Twenty-two teams from across Nagaland and neighbouring areas are participating in a Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament organised by 173 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Dimapur.
The tournament, being held under the banner of “SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development Across Nations”, got underway at the CRPF Transit Camp near DC Court, Dimapur, on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony was attended by 173 Bn CRPF Commandant Ashok Kumar Yadav, SAI representatives, coaches, officials, participating teams and sports enthusiasts.
The opening match saw 711 take on Ignite Spikers, with players displaying teamwork and sportsmanship.
The tournament aims to encourage youth participation in sports while promoting peace, unity and community engagement. Organisers said the event also provides young athletes an opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive setting.

The tournament will conclude with the final scheduled for September 11 at the CRPF Transit Camp.
Meanwhile, a badminton tournament for men and women is also being organised by 173 Bn CRPF in collaboration with SAI at CIHSR, 4th Mile, Dimapur, with athletes from different parts of Nagaland taking part.
The CRPF said the sporting initiatives are aimed at encouraging youth participation and strengthening engagement between security personnel and the local community through sport.
