KOHIMA — The women’s team of Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA) returned home with a bronze medal in the Senior Women’s 500 kg category at the 38th Senior National Tug of War Championship, held in Shirdi, Maharashtra, from August 22 to 25.


A press release on Wednesday informed that the eight-member women’s squad, led by captain Vikehenuo Zumvu, defeated Uttar Pradesh in straight pulls to secure the medal. The team was coached by Vemele Thingo and fully sponsored by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

This was the first time the women’s team participated in the nationals after just two weeks of preparation.


Meanwhile, eight men athletes from Nagaland are undergoing intensive training at Patiala ahead of the World Outdoor Tug of War Championship in Nottingham, England, scheduled from September 4 to 7, as part of the Team India contingent.
