MOKOKCHUNG — Nagaland team won five out of six categories in the first Li Ning North East Invitational Badminton Tournament, which concluded at Mokokchung District Sports Council Badminton Indoor stadium, on December 15.
Bijoy Kumar Barman and Yumnam Tombisana Singh (Assam) were the only players from outside the state to win the Men's Doubles 105+.
Bendangnochet and Imlisunep (Nagaland) lost the first set to Temsuyanger Lemtur and Sashiwapang (Nagaland) but came back to secure the second and third sets to win the Men's Doubles 95+.
The duo also won the Men's Doubles 85+ against Toshikaba and Sendongyanger (Nagaland).
Sendongyanger and Wapang Tzudir defeated Supongtemsu Longchar and Tiayanger in the Men's Doubles 75+.
Teichang Herie and Peramrisi Zeliang defeated Unil Kumar (Manipur) and Hitlo V Sumi (Nagaland) in the Men's Doubles, while in the Women's Doubles, Shekhotolu Puro and Tovali Shohe (Nagaland) defeated Ekumyala Changkiri and Bendangnaro Jamir.
Moa Aier, Engineer-in-Chief, Department of Power, the special guest of the closing ceremony, in his address, said that sport has become a viable source of livelihood and with talents, skill, efforts and hardwork, one can earn enough and have a successful career.
He also urged the MDBA for inclusion of all interested players, asserting that “Not only privileged players should play but all interested players too.”
Imomar, the tournament referee, informed that 80 players participated in the tournament, out of which 14 players were women.
The tournament was organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) under the aegis of the Nagaland Badminton Association and Mokokchung District Sports Council.
