DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, on Tuesday, said that teaching is a serious profession and unless one is committed to moulding children to be better humans, one should not become a teacher.

The DC was speaking during the Dimapur District Common Teacher’s Day celebration held at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

Jaiswal shared that with the changing times, the responsibilities of teachers have also increased immensely. He also stated in the present world where social media is everywhere, the teacher needs to be more vocal and local with the students about topics in which parents are unable to take the lead sometimes.

On the increasing drug usage among youth in the state, he said teachers should take the responsibility to teach students about the ill effects of drugs, so as to secure the future of the society.

The DC also encouraged the teachers to be more open to changes and not to always depend on the coaching scheme as with advancement in technology, there are many courses available online.

Maintaining that the school education scenario in Nagaland is not very rosy at the moment and that everyone knows what things are going wrong, Jaiswal however said that with the introduction of technology, the menace of proxy teaching has gone down.

He also advised the teachers not to discourage students who are trying to venture into social media.

Four teachers awardees were felicitated during the programme: Zasekhoyi Ringa from GHHS Dimapur, Bendangsenla from GPS Lengrijan, Loli Heni from Livingstone Foundation International and Suigui Poireng from St. Stephen’s HSS.

Vice Principal of GHSS Dimapur, Viliholi Achumi, shared the significance of the day and Loli Heni, PGT, spoke on behalf of the awardees.
