Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): A four-day training for in-service teachers on learning outcomes for primary and upper primary teachers under EBRC Tseminyu got underway on May 1.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Yhunyule Kent, SDEO Tseminyu, briefed the gathering on the pivotal role of education for development of any society. Describing education as a ‘passport to the future,’ she exhorted the teachers to update their knowledge and skills to catch up with the ongoing trend of pedagogical process.
She further advised the teacher trainees to be an asset to their community.
During the introductory session, Thongsenlo Kath, DMA assistant district coordinator, highlighted on the poor performance report as per the National Achievement Survey (NAS) and Annual Status Education Report (ASER) under Kohima district.
Reiterating major cause of concern that the learning levels of children are not up to the desirable levels inspite of provisions and timely intervention, he felt that there was decline in outcomes for reading ability as well as numerical and mathematical ability. He further stressed on the aims of learning outcomes to enhance the quality of learning in schools including children with special needs (CWSN). He motivated the educators to learn, unlearn and relearn for bringing out positive results.
Learning outcomes as mandated on the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE) 2009, he suggested incorporating the application of constructivist approach on subjects such as language, EVS, Maths, Science and Social Science in the teaching and learning process.
The programme was chaired by Gwayhunlo Tep, assistant coordinator, while Hanchulo Jemu pronounced the invocation prayer.
The resource persons were Francis Magh, Soti Tep, Hinilo Cheng and Lielakle. Altogether 115 teachers are participating in the training programme.
