Teachers taking undue advantage of Covid-19, absconding from duties — ZSUN
Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Alleging that some teachers are absconding from work, ‘taking undue advantage’ of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has asked the department concerned to intervene and eliminate such harmful practices.
A press release from the union on Thursday stated that during a ‘surprise school inspection’ under the establishment of DEO Peren, it found some teachers, “who are the backbone and the role model of the society”, missing from work.
‘Despite the guidelines of the department, it is upsetting seeing the practice of keeping substitute teachers. In this regard, the student community of Peren district would like to request the department concerned to look into the matter, so that such harmful practices are eliminated in the near future,’ it stated.
It also stated that GHS Azailong is functioning with only three graduate teachers despite being upgraded from GMS to GHS in 2010. The union has requested the department to look into the matter and ensure that students are not affected.
‘The ZSUN, through the press statement, would like to seek the attention of the department as the district head office, DEO Peren, is in a pathetic condition and functioning without proper facilities which directly or indirectly affect the process of rendering service by our officers and the teachers,’ it stated.
