Dimapur, November 6 : A students’ organization in Mokokchung has made clear to the Nagaland government that the latter must put into action assurances that the salary of teachers would be released, for which an ultimatum was being keep aside. On Sunday, the Ao Students' Conference (AKM) issued a copy of a letter addressed to the chief minister of Nagaland concerning issues revolving around unpaid school teachers. Earlier on, the organization had served an ultimatum to the state as an intervention into the issue of unpaid SSA and Hindi teachers. The AKM has on Sunday informed to have ‘kept in abeyance’ the ultimatum after the government assured to release the wages. The AKM stated that the apex students’ organization of the Ao community had ‘no other means’ but to issue ultimatums ‘as the students’ academic careers were in peril.’ The AKM’s press release read: ‘After several hours of deliberations, the AKM has resolved to keep in abeyance the ultimatum served... after receiving official intimation from the NSSATA and ANHTA of assurance given by the commissioner and secretary to the government of Nagaland and the minister of School Education for early release of pending salary within the month of November 2016.’ The AKM has expressed faith that under “your able leadership” (chief minister’s), the issue would be resolved at the earliest “as per the assurance given by the government.” But, the press release stated, AKM “will ever remain ever vigilant.” It said to stay cautious to said issue. Failure on the part of the government to fulfil its assurance will force the AKM to ‘resort to any kind and course of action’ to ensure that the interest of students are not hampered in any way.
