Rakshit Tandon, cyber security expert and consultant of internet and mobile association of India, apprised the educators on the need to teach youngsters or give them rules on responsible behaviour when using digital technologies. Stating that India's youth might be hailed as 'digital citizens' given their addiction to technology, he however pointed out that most of them are unaware of the existing cyber laws. He has emphasised on the urgent need of the school and parents to teach and adopt steps to protect students from any foreseeable harm associated with the use of technology. He also spoke on the need to limit youngster's recreational screen time for healthy lifestyle. He pointed out that parental ignorance could be one of the biggest threats when children use the internet without supervision. “It is important for parents to be aware of the dangers of cyber defamation, cyber bullying, data breach, social media scams, morphing of photographs by cyber criminals, hacking, cheating by impersonation and the negative psychological effects of violent games,” Rakshit Tandon stated. He also suggested several safety measures such as ensuring appropriate age for use of internet, social media age restrictions and strict monitoring contents of online games. He maintained that technology should never be used in ways that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, violent, degrading and exploitative to children.
