DIMAPUR — Education department and other institutions across Nagaland celebrated Teachers’ Day on Thursday by organising various events.
Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 dedicated to honouring and acknowledging the invaluable contributions made by teachers to society.
The day also serves as a tribute to the memory of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned scholar, philosopher and second President of India on his birth anniversary.
Dimapur: Dimapur district celebrated a common Teachers’ Day on Thursday at Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, organised jointly by District Education Officer (DEO), Dimapur, and Dimapur unit of All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA).
Speaking during the celebration, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has appreciated various institutions for their support towards the students with special needs. He stated that many schools have now enrolled those students and taken care of them unlike in the past.
He also reminded the significant role of teachers in education and personal development saying they are the architect of the future.
During the programme, four teachers namely Imnajungla, supervisor and subject teacher of Little Higher Secondary School; Shikato Shohe from PM Shri government High school, Burma Camp; Limanaro from Christian Higher Secondary School, and Martha Angami from Government Higher Secondary School, Kuda, were conferred teachers award.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto district celebrated Teachers’ Day at town hall with the deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, as the guest speaker.
Speaking at the programme, Mali has described teachers as backbone of the nation, who not only perform their regular job but also are responsible for building and moulding the students’ life and gradually contribute to the nation building.
Rahul appealed to the teachers to understand the nobility of their profession and execute their assignments with utmost sincerity.
He concluded by congratulating the teachers award recipients.
Teachers award were given to M Samuel Sema, GT of GHSS Satakha; Hewoto, GT of GMS Surumi; Nguvili, UGHT of Sovishe Memorial GHS; and Avitoli A Ayemi, GT of Woodland HSS.
Tseminyu: The combined district Teachers’ Day celebration-cum-teachers award in Tseminyu was held at Baptist Higher Secondary School auditorium hall with the SDO , Tsidi, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the special guest thanked all the teachers for their tireless efforts in imparting knowledge and shaping the future of the students.
Also speaking on the significance of Teacher’s Day, Kegwayhun Tep said the teachers are the backbone of the society and played a big role in building the character of students.
Teacher award was awarded to Hitilo Kath, GT (Science) of GHSS, Tseminyu.
Wokha: The Education department of Wokha division celebrated Teachers’ Day at Lotha Hoho Ki in Wokha town with the deputy commissioner (DC) of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, as the special guest.
Speaking at the programme, the DC stated that teaching is one of the most respected jobs which create positive impact in the society, He urged the teachers to continue serving with dedication and sincerity.
He also urged the teachers to focus in imparting life skills and right knowledge so that students are able to manage change and make them good citizens.
The significance of Teachers’ Day was presented by senior SDEO of Wokha, Z Chanbemo Kikon.
Teachers award were given to Binod Pariyar, GT (Science) of GHSS Bhandari; H Lidemo Tungoe, GT (Math) of GHSS, Wokha; T Rosana Lotha, assistant teacher of Mt. Sinai School, and M Benchumlo Humtsoe of GMS, Tsungki.
Noklak: The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU), in collaboration with the district administration and School Education department, organised the Teachers’ Day celebration at Noklak town public ground on the theme “Empowering education for a sustainable future.”
Speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Noklak, Arikumba, has urged to honour the teachers stating that the success of a nation depends on the value given to the teaching professions.
Noklak district, being new and young with many challenges and issues in many areas, the DC urged everyone not to let evil minds take advantage of the challenges but let commitments be the driving force to take the district forward.
The president Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF), Chingmak Chang, has requested the teachers to be true to their profession and mould the students irrespective of their background.
SDEO in-charge of Noklak, Y Khongkhao, gave away the district teachers award to B Ruth, PGT of GHSS Noklak, and PL Shingnya of GPS Noklak village.
Kiphire: The office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Kiphire, celebrated Teachers’ Day at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall with the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Kiphire, Longdiba L Sangtam, as the special guest.
In his speech, the ADC emphasised the important profession of the teachers and the role they play to shape children. He also urged the teachers to influence the students through their personal life.
The district teachers award were given to G Omega Sema, PGT (Pol. Science) of GHSS Pungro; S Likhumla Sangtam, GT (General) of GHSS Kiphire; and A Mughali Sumi, PT of GHS, Sitimi town.
Niuland: The office of the sub-divisional education officer (SDEO), Niuland, organised a common Teacher’s Day celebration on Thursday at St. Joseph School, Viyito, with Kilangyanger Walling, deputy commissioner of police, Niuland, as the special guest.
The special guest gave away the district teacher’s award to Akaho Chisho, GT at GHSS Niuland, and Easther Aye, AHM of Shepherd School.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rose Ngullie, SDEO, DEO (Charge).
Bhandari: The SDEO of Bhandari organised a combined Teachers’ Day celebration at Bhandari town public ground with MLA and chairperson of Bhandari SDPDB, Achumbemo Kikon, as the special guest.
Speaking at the programme, Kikon lauded the teachers for their pro-active role in shaping and moulding the children to be resourceful individuals and to prepare them to be responsible leaders of the future.
He called on the teachers to live up to the noble profession and to take pride and honour for the crucial role they play in shaping the society.
Kikon also emphasised on the need to motivate the students to think critically, to think bigger and be inquisitive in this changing times when method of imparting education is seeing a paradigm shift.
The SDEO of Bhandari submitted a representation to the special guest requesting for repairing the office building of the SDEO in Bhandari and construction of one lodge for teachers.
KCK: Kohima College, Kohima (KCK) celebrated Teachers’ Day at the college courtyard with its vice principal, Kaholi Chishi, as the keynote speaker.
In her speech, the vice principal emphasized on the critical role teachers play as mentors and guides, not just academically but also personally, shaping the future of the nation, an update stated. Chishi urged the students to recognise the patience, commitment and love teachers invest in their growth.
Yukhase L Jungrü, representing the students, saluted the perseverance and dedication of teachers, urging fellow students to excel in their endeavours as a tribute to their educators.
Dr. Konei Nakhro, associate professor of Political Science, spoke of the challenges and immense satisfaction that come with the role. She called teaching a “labour of love” and reminded the audience that education goes beyond the classroom, as teachers nurture both the minds and hearts of their students.
GMS Lerie: Government Middle School (GMS), Leirie Chazou (Aradhura) in Kohima, celebrated pre-Teachers’ Day 2024 on September at the school premises.
Delivering the keynote address, the school head teacher, Thejangulie Kirha, highlighted the significance of Teachers’ Day celebration and expressed gratitude to the teaching faculty for their constant love and support rendered throughout the year. He urged the teachers to rededicate themselves to the profession and work for the welfare and uplift of the students as well as the school.
The vice chairman of school management committee (SMC), Megoviko Mor, lauded the teachers for their unwavering dedication and motivated them to continue doing the same even in the days to come. He also urged the students to learn all the good things from their surroundings and reminded them that the things they learn today would determine the person they would become tomorrow.
UCHSS: The Unity Christian Higher Secondary School (UCHSS), Diphupar, celebrated Teachers’ Day on the theme ‘Empowering educators: strengthening, resilience, building sustainability.’
On the occasion, the students performed various activities to honour and show their gratitude to the teachers. A Teacher’s Day greeting was forwarded from the managing director’s desk and delivered by Paweii Kayina, the school stated in an update.
The school also released its school anthem.
PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated Teachers’ Day at the school’s auditorium, which commenced with a “universal peace-prayer,” followed with greetings, speeches and students presenting various cultural items in honour of their teachers.
The school’s principal Monoj Bhattacharjee, in his message, congratulated all the teachers who have dedicated their utmost services with diligence and perseverance for all round development of the students and the society.
Chairman of the Vidyapith, Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, blessed all the participants.
NEISSR: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) celebrated Teachers’ Day at the Bishop Memorial Hall on the theme “Recognising pillars of education.”
During the programme, speeches were delivered by students, who have expressed their gratitude to the educators for playing pivotal role in shaping their academic journeys.
Several items were performed by students to honour their teachers.
The programme concluded with a short yet meaningful talk by Jose V Abraham, district coordinator of Peace Channel.
RJHSS: Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, celebrated Teachers’ Day by honouring the teachers for their contribution in shaping and moulding children.
Various colourful displays of song, dance and skit were other highlights of the celebration.
GSUCD: Gorkha Students’ Union Chümoukedima District (GSUCD) has felicitated teachers from its community during a programme held at Little Hut conference hall in Chümoukedima town.
Speaking at the programme, the special guest and graduate teacher (Mathematics), Samant Chetri, encouraged the Gorkha teachers to continue upgrading their teaching skills. He focused on the important role of both Gorkha teachers and Gorkha students in steering the direction of any society.
Rakesh Chettri, headmaster of Central Academy School, Kuhuboto, encouraged the gathering to be an example for the upcoming generation and urged the Gorkha teachers to serve the community.
MGM College: MGM College celebrated Teachers’ Day at the college auditorium by paying tributes to teachers for their invaluable contributions in shaping the lives.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. RK Behera, acting principal, has described teachers as “guiding lights who illuminate our paths, not only through academic knowledge but also through life lessons. They inspire us to dream big, work hard, and strive for excellence.”
Fr. Giju George, administrator of the college, has appreciated the teachers for their efforts in moulding the future generations.
Highlights of the programme included musical performance by special guests and talent display by the students.
