DIMAPUR — The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) has provisionally suspended its agitation following a written assurance from the School Education department that the teacher shortage will be addressed within the next 3-4 weeks.

In a letter on Feb. 8, the principal director of School Education, Thavaseelan K, appealed to the student body to call off the protest stating that the department is committed to addressing their issue within 3-4 weeks.

The rationalisation exercise which is in progress may not completely address all the vacancies but the department will ultimately explore an arrangement for recruitment of qualified and dedicated teachers to fill the gaps at the earliest, he assured the YAA.

Consequently, on Friday, the YAA issued a notification, stating that the indefinite agitation which started on Feb. 2 is provisionally suspended, and accordingly, all the restrictions that were enforced are also lifted.

However, if the department fails to address the grievances on time, the indefinite agitation will be resumed and “it will be in a rigorous manner,” it cautioned.
