TCMDFI to hold tribal artisan mela in Wokha

Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): The Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TCMDFI) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, government of India, will host a two-day tribal artisan mela in Wokha district on May 9 and 10.

A meeting in this regard was held with the representatives of NGO, civil societies, entrepreneurs, Chamber of Commerce and Industries Wokha, Eloe Hoho and village council chairmen in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Wokha on Saturday to chalk out modalities for the smooth conduct of the two-day mela.

While highlighting the participants about aims and objectives of the mela, the skill development officer of Wokha, Anuranjan Singh, informed that the proposed mela was focused to identify new artisans and new products at the sourcing level in states/ districts/ villages for expanding the tribal producers’ base. He informed that artisans could exhibit their items during the mela, stated a DIPR report.

He also informed all individuals / SHGs/ societies/ FPOs to submit sufficient sample of the products so that the selection committee could select the items/ products in order to bring them within the ambit of the supply chain of tribes. He added that the products would be put in retail outlets after the selection process and also in the E-commerce portal.

He further expressed hope that the collaboration would go a long way in promoting tribal products and strengthening livelihood opportunities of tribal artisans of the district and the entire Northeastern region.

Meanwhile, artisans are asked to produce ST certificate, Aadhar card, PAN card, bank passbook and passport photo for registration.
