TCK Foundation launches scholarship programme

Dimapur, Jan. 11 (EMN): TCK Foundation, a social and educational trust, initiated by Abeni TCK and the family members of Late TCK Lotha, former chief secretary and cabinet minister, government of Nagaland, launched the TCK Foundation scholarship for undergraduate studies during a programme held at LTC Hall in  Wokha town on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launch event, the guest of honour and deputy chief minister of Nagaland, Y Patton, expressed pride and happiness for launching the scholarship in honour of Late TCK Lotha. He expressed confidence that the scholarship would give push to the needy students towards academic excellence and in order to carry forward the legacy of compassion, excellence and service that Late TCK Lotha exemplified during his lifetime, the chief trustee of the foundation, Abeni TCK Lotha, stated an update.

Patton mentioned that TCK Lotha of Tsungiki village was the first Lotha IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre in 1964. He also mentioned that TCK Lotha was a distinguished and refined statesman, who served the state of Nagaland in various important positions during the very difficult times of insurgency.

Since the scholarship was also the first of its kind, Patton challenged the well-wishers to willingly come forward and contribute towards the activities of the trust.

In a welcome speech, Abeni TCK Lotha, introduced the TCK Foundation as a non-profit trust instituted by the family members of Late TCK Lotha in his memory.

She also highlighted the aims and objectives of the trust to support and promote educational excellence by sponsoring needy students through scholarships; create awareness on various social, moral and economic issues affecting the country; and undertake a broad range of charitable activities for various sections of society, as and when the need arises.

In a short speech, Rev. Shan Kikon introduced the scholarship as a means of facilitating deserving candidates, who are unable to pursue higher education owing to financial constraints with financial support towards their undergraduate studies so as to enable them to achieve their desired goals.

It informed that the trust would provide INR 50,000 per annum to a chosen candidate for the period of undergraduate studies in any recognised field of education. Since this is the first year of the launch, the first invitation was made to students from the Lotha community.

It further stated that in 2023, two individuals including one female and one male would be chosen for duration of four years. From the second year, the scholarship would be opened to students from all the Naga tribe based in Nagaland.
