Tata Motors joins hands with Lemsachenlok for Go Green Initiative
DIMAPUR — The 11th anniversary of Lemsachenlok Society was celebrated on November 4 at Chang Awa, Yaongyimchen village, Longleng. The event also marked the launch of the Go Green Initiative Project, done in collaboration with Tata Motors Limited.
According to a DIPR report, the event had Ravindrakumar GP, chief human resources officer of Tata Motors, as the chief guest, who, speaking on the occasion, emphasised that Tata Motors is not solely a commercial organisation but also a group with a deep concern for environmental and social issues.
The report mentioned that the introduction of the project marks a significant step in the direction of planting ten lakh trees of 25 local species over the next two to three years and that this initiative aims to generate income for local communities and enhance their economic well-being.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, senior scientist at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, shared his experiences and insights on the 10-year conservation milestone of the Amur Falcon and praised the efforts of Lemsachenlok in conserving these birds in Nagaland.
He acknowledged the collective effort of the community in protecting the Amur Falcon, describing it as a remarkable success story in the conservation world, and stressed that biodiversity is deeply ingrained in Naga culture, with elders passing down knowledge about the importance of preserving biodiversity to younger generations.
The programme also included greetings from S Nungdang, a village council member from Yaongyimchen village, and a welcome address by Dr. Y Nuklu Phom, team leader of Lemsachenlok.
Chepe-ü Koza, range officer of the Longleng forest division, and Dr. Samuel Konyak, EAC, Longleng, discussed ‘a common concern towards mitigating biodiversity loss’, while Ranvir Knowar, zonal manager, eastern region, Kolkata, delivered a short speech.
Besides inaugurating the Go Green Initiative Project, during the event, Ravindrakumar GP also inaugurated a community watchtower at Sanglu village, a community bridge at Lomching village, a Go Green Initiative Project nursery at Lomching village, and a Seed Bank and Exchange Axis at Yaongyimchen village.
