DIMAPUR — A surveillance task force has been initiated after African Swine Fever (ASF) testing returned positive results at Old Town Khel, Phek village, for immediate control, containment, and surveillance, aligning with the National Action Plan (NAP).
Further, according to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer, Phek, in this connection, Old Town Khel, Phek village, and a one-kilometre radius have been declared infected zone (IZ), and an area extending nine kilometres outside the IZ has been declared as surveillance zone (SZ). The SZ includes Chosaba, Phek Basa, Phek Town, Lozaphuhu, and Losami.
In both the infected zone and surveillance zone, strict orders banning the slaughter of pigs, the import and export of pigs and piglets, as well as the transport of pigs and pork, are to be implemented until further directives are issued by the higher authority.
The village chairmen and administrator of Phek Town Council have been urged to instruct pig farmers to promptly report any instances of pig sickness or mortality to the task force at the Veterinary Hospital Phek for necessary follow-up action.
