Tamil Nadu government provides relief to Nagas

Dimapur, May 30 (EMN): Many stranded Nagas in various districts of Tamil Nadu have started receiving assistance from the government. The assistance came about following an appealed made to SJ Chiru, Northeast nodal officer for Covid-19 and the commissioner of agricultural marketing board, government of Tamil Nadu, requesting for shelter and dry food ration supplies.

On May 29, Nagaland nodal officer for Covid-19 and pastor of Naga Christian Fellowship, Chennai, Wapangtoshi, submitted a list of 140 stranded Nagas in eight districts of Tamil Nadu to Chiru, requesting for shelter and dry food supplies.

According to Wapangtoshi, there are 100 stranded Nagas in six districts of Tamil Nadu namely Krishnagiri, Kanyakumari, Erode, Trichy, Salem and Dindigul, while another 40 persons were stranded in two districts of Coimbatore and Tiruppur.

Wapangtoshi stated that Chiru had responded positively and assured continuous assistance to stranded people from Nagaland. He has thanked the government of Tamil Nadu and the two Northeast nodal officers for Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu namely SJ Chiru and Sudhan for all their support and help from the beginning of the unprecedented situation.

Meanwhile, Wapangtoshi has appealed to the people of Nagaland to be united more than ever before in the fight against the deadly virus and continue to demonstrate the Naga spirit and hospitality at all times.
“If we lost the battle against Covid-19, we are going to lost everything.

Therefore, we should be well-focused with much prayers and encouragement among us. As a civilised community, we should fight against this pandemic with right understandings and with more humane approach,” stated Wapangtoshi.
