Tamenglong announces cash awards to enhance Covid-19 vaccination drive

Imphal, June 14 (EMN): In a move to increase the number of Covid vaccination among the public, Tamenglong district administration in Manipur has announced to give cash awards to individuals or villages that can help in enhancing the vaccination rates.
The deputy commissioner of Tamenglong district, Armstrong Pame, who is also the chairman of the District Health Society issued a notification in this regard on June 11.
The village/ward which has the highest percentage of vaccination would be awarded a sum of INR 50,000 subject to the condition that the vaccination percentage should cross at least 50 percent of its population, the order said.
On the other hand, any individual who had convinced/organised the maximum number of people towards taking the vaccine would be rewarded a sum of INR 20,000, subject to the condition that at least 50 persons be vaccinated through him/her, it stated.
Informing that the period of the awards would be considered till July 15, it stated that the Health department would ascertain the number at the time of vaccination and keep a register to record in case any person is willing to give such credit to that particular person.
The District Task Force has taken up the step after observing that the rate of vaccination has been extremely low in the district despite all out efforts.
Tamenglong district, which ranked 13th position in terms of having the maximum number doses vaccinated among the state’s 16 districts, has administered anti-Covid jabs to 9385 persons (7465 first doses and 1920 second doses) from Jan. 16 to June 13. In the age group of 45-59 years, 1905 received their first dose while 35 of them got the second dose. In 60 years plus, 1076 got the first dose while 39 of them received the second dose. So far, 1523 people (18-44 years) received the first dose of vaccines.
Altogether, 1180 health workers and 3627 frontline workers were also vaccinated in the district.
Among all the 16 districts of the state, Imphal West district has the maximum number of 1,47,716 Covishield doses vaccinated during the period while Kamjong has the minimum number of 4,894 doses vaccinated.
On the other hand, among the 10 hill districts of the state, Churachandpur district has administered maximum number of 50,504 anti-Covid jabs including 43,783 first and 6,721 second doses to its residents, according to official reports.
Senapati district ranked 10th position among all districts and 5th among the 10 hill districts in terms of having the maximum number doses vaccinated to its population.
In an attempt to become the first 100 percent vaccinated village in Senapati district, altogether 370 persons including 300 (above 18 years), 69 (above 45 years) and one frontline worker was vaccinated at the Maram centre village, 80 km north of Imphal in a single day on June 8.
