DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 31: 31st edition of Ato Area Sports Association (AASA) tournament consisting of 10 villages under Nihokhu EAC Circle began today in H Khehoyi village on the theme ‘Unity through sports.’
Altogether 9 teams each in men’s football and volleyball and 6 teams in women’s volleyball will vie for GBs; trophy (football), Late Nikhekhu Memorial Volleyball (men/women), Late Shekuto Suu Memorial Badminton Trophy (men/women).
Inaugurating the sports meet, Convenor of National Political Affairs Committee (NPAC), GPRN/NSCN, Kughalu Mulatonu urged the players to be disciplined in the sporting field and show positive examples to fellow players. Stating that playing football was not a new thing for the Nagas, whose forefathers also engaged in the game and various other similar games, Mulatonu encouraged the youngsters to take sports to a higher level. He urged the players to put their best efforts and bring laurels to their respective areas and community.
A host of NPAC members, kilonsers and deputy kilonsers from the GPRN/NSCN accompanied the chief guest.
The six-day long tournament will culminate on November 5.
