DIMAPUR — Chairman of Task Force for Music and Art (TaFMA), Theja Meru, has highlighted the unique aspects of Nagaland and shared the strengths of music and arts industry in the state and also spoke on the special features of the Hornbill Festival.

Meru spoke about Nagaland during the Worldwide Music Expo (WOMEX), which is being held at A Coruna in Spain from October 24 to the 29th. A DIPR report stated that WOMEX is the most international and culturally diverse music meeting in the world and the biggest conference of the global music scene, featuring trade fair, talks and showcase concerts.

It stated that over 3,000 professionals including 260 performing artistes from 90 countries come together every October making WOMEX the leading networking platform for the world music industry.

Meru, who was invited as a speaker delegate to WOMEX, made special reference on the Hornbill Festival. He stated that the festival is celebrated to showcase the rich indigenous culture of the Naga people while celebrating music of all genres at the stand alone music festival, which is one of the biggest across the region.

He also met Alex Walter, the director of WOMEX, and held discussion for collective actions, possible partnerships and collaborative actions towards promoting the music industry.

Meru stated that the objective of attending WOMEX was to strengthen connections and position Nagaland as the upholder of art and culture in the world music and arts map. He stated that participation in the event would make the stakeholders better understand the global trends in music and possibilities to secure supportive conditions for artistes and cultural ambassadors.

He also met several policy makers, stakeholders from the international music industry and discussed issues like improving and enforcing regulatory frameworks, expansion of international connectivity, rapid responses and long-term strategies to effectively support artistes and cultural ambassadors of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, Meru thanked the organisation of WOMEX for the invitation, which according to him, is recognition of the music industry of Nagaland. He expressed confidence that the experience would benefit the Nagaland music and arts industry.

Report further stated that the TaFMA chairman would be participating in dialogues, workshops and seminar and hold discussions with stakeholders of the international music and arts community in the next couple of days.
