Taekwondo gold and silver for 8-year-old twins from Nagaland
Kohima: Twin brothers from Nagaland, Shiusuthong and Shiuthong, won one gold and one silver in the national championship for sub-junior Pee Wee category.
The twin brothers are eight years old.
Shiusuthong secured the gold medal for Nagaland in the 36th National Taekwondo Sub-Junior Championship 2023 at JN Indoor Stadium at Cuttack, Odisha.
With 25 states participating in his weight category of U-23kg, Shiusuthong managed to outclass all his opponents to win gold for Nagaland team.
While his twin brother, Shiuthong won silver, losing in the finals of the under-25 kg category..
The 8-year-old twins hail from Anatongu village under Kiphire district and are currently training at Sports Academy, IGS Kohima. Last year in July, this duo struck gold in the under 22 kg and 24 kg in Pee Wee category (U-8) at the Open India Kukkiwon championship held at Assam from July 1 to 3rd.
Nagaland team ended this year’s campaign winning two medals with silver and gold medal in the championship.
The team was led by Coach Santsuthung Ngullie and Manager Keneingulie. A total of eight players representing Nagaland Taekwondo Team took part in the national championship.
The sub-junior boys’ team includes Alimthong – under 18 kg; David M – under 21 kg; Shiusuthong – under 23 kg; Shiuthong – under 25 kg; Sudeh – under 27 kg; Hantsukhum – under 29 kg; P. Athongti – under 35 kg and Pauziechangbe Herie – under 38 kg.
