DIMAPUR — T N Mannen, MLA and Advisor, Law and Justice and Land Revenue, met with S K G Rahate, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Law and Justice, and department officials on Thursday.

According to a press release, they discussed extending the infrastructure development of customary courts in the state’s villages in accordance with the Gram Nyayalayas Act 2008, which was amended in 2019 to extend to Nagaland and other tribal states in northeast India.

Mannen specifically requested that Rahate and the officials make a special dispensation to allow infrastructure funding of customary court constructions at the village level as a centrally sponsored scheme, which the secretary assured to examine. The advisor also reminded the ministry to allow the separate high court for Nagaland to open at the earliest.

Mannen also met with Ajay Tirkey, Secretary, Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, in his New Delhi office on Tuesday.

With the secretary and his officials present, he reviewed the implementation of the digitalisation scheme in Nagaland.

They had pointed out certain shortcomings in the reports submitted from Nagaland, and the ministry officials expressed that if necessary, they are ready to visit Nagaland and help with its effective implementation. Discussions on the project’s details and guidelines were also held.

The advisor thanked them for their willingness to support the state and stated that senior state officials would visit the ministry and department for further discussion on various aspects of the scheme.
