Swine flu case detected in Manipur

Our Correspondent Imphal, July 17 (EMN): Director Dr K Rajo of the Manipur State Health Services on Wednesday said that a swine flu case was detected in the state. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the premises of the health services department at Lamphlpat in Imphal on Wednesday afternoon, Director Rajo accompanied by senior official of the health department, said the H1N1 virus was detected in an 18 year old male individual following necessary tests in Guwahati on July 13. Initially the patient who is a resident of Imphal East district was admitted in a private hospital in the district following report of fever, mouth ulcer etc from July 2 to 5. However he was shifted to a hospital in Guwahati, where his subsequent tests were conducted, the Director (health services) said. Later the hospital authority in Guwahati issued the dead certificate on July 15. Appealing to the public not to panic, the director said that the health department is sharing the information (of detecting the case) in order to create awareness about the disease among the general public so that the air borne disease could be controlled. He maintained that the state government has taken up necessary steps to control new cases if any. Appealing to the public to be cautious and follow the health tips like washing hands often to prevent from diseases, he said that the department has taken up necessary awareness programmes besides surveillance activities. He also shared the key symptoms of the disease. Additional Director Dr Sasheekumar Mangang of State Health Services (Public Health) who attended the press conference said the disease creates health issues in many parts of the country and need to take care of it. The first case of Swine Flu was detected in Manipur in March 2015.
