Dimapur, April 29 (EMN):
After reports of swine fever outbreak in the neighbouring states like Assam, the first phase of vaccination of pigs for the disease began on Wednesday here in Dimapur.

According to an order from the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, the vaccination was for classical swine fever, also known as hog cholera.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Dr. Michael Imchen, VAS at Veterinary Hospital, informed that around 120 pigs were vaccinated on the first day at Senjum village and others.

Imchen informed that eight colonies in Dimapur would avail the vaccination for pigs, and they are: Aoyimkum, Senjum, Indisen, Rilan, Aokong, Lingrijan, Nuton Bosti and LRC colony.

In the meantime, Chief Secretary Temjen Toy has issued a notification stating that Nagaland government has imposed a ban on import of pigs from outside the state with immediate effect ‘in view of the reported outbreak of African swine fever.’
