Swachta Hi Seva: More than 100 kg of plastic waste collected at Churachandpur

Imphal, Sep. 26 (EMN): More than 100 kg of plastic waste has been collected at the ongoing “Swachta Hi Seva,” a mass cleanliness movement which is being observed with a thematic focus on plastic waste management at the Plastic Collection Centre set up by Autonomous District Council (ADC), Churachandpur in Manipur, an official report claimed.
Churachandpur is a hill district headquarters, 65 km south of Imphal.

According to Chief Executive Officer TK Simte of ADC Churachandpur, plastic wastes was received from six schools under ADC Churachandpur so far.

A competition on collection of plastic wastes was also held on Thursday among the ADC Churachandpur’s schools.
As part of the movement, Swachta Hi Seva Marathon was held on September 21 while tree plantation drive was conducted under the Divisional Forest Officer, Churachandpur on Sep. 23.

Meanwhile, workshop on plastic pollution, problems and solution for teachers and students was held under the aegis of SiandurEnviro Pvt. Ltd, Shillong and Internal quality assessment cell of Rayburn College at Rayburn College, Churachandpur, 65 km south of Imphal on Thursday.

The workshop was organised as part of an environment education, awareness and training to further strengthen and support on the ban of Plastics and the hazardous impact of plastic wastes in the district.

Depts. observe nutrition month

The multi-departmental convergence mission, Poshan Maah (Nutrition month) which was launched in Churachandpur on September 2 made a significant progress as different departments took the holistic nutrition campaign to interior areas, reports said.

Workshop and awareness campaign on nutrition from locally available fruit and vegetable, growth monitoring, school-based activities such as painting and quiz competition, demonstration on hand washing technique and community meeting on Poshan Maah are the activities taken up so far on daily basis at different places of the district, it said.

Apart from demonstrating on hand washing to children of various schools within the district Swachhta pledges were also administered to them as a part of the campaign.

CMO and ZEO jointly organised personal hygiene awareness for adolescent girls at Rengkai Government Higher Secondary School.
