DIMAPUR — The Swachhata Pakhwada was launched in Longleng on September 16 at the public ground, Longleng town.
In his keynote address, Alongdhimen Jamir, ADC and administrator of Longleng Town Council, said that the event, led by vibrant youth, commits to building garbage-free cities.
After the event, he mentioned, that each city and town would need to submit an official entry outlining their activities, along with photos and videos. These will be evaluated based on essential criteria, including the scale of youth engagement through voluntary registration of the myGov app, and each entry will be assessed based on innovativeness and impact.
He said that the top ten teams from across the country that truly stand out will be declared champions.
According to him, the Swachhata League, which is a part of Swachhata Pakhwada, is more than just an event; it is a movement, a promise, and a vision for a cleaner, brighter India in which the youth, the future leaders, take charge and lead towards a garbage-free India.
In his address, Yanger Jamir, SP Longleng, stated that the purpose of the Swaachata Pakhwada is to carry forward the vision of keeping the environment clean and green every day in people’s daily lives rather than to focus on publicity.
He emphasised the importance of putting into action the commitment to creating a livable environment and further inspired citizens to adopt cleaner practices in their daily lives. He called upon the people to keep the town clean and avert diseases.
During the event, students from St. Joseph High School, Longleng, performed choreography to the theme song, and the administration of the Swachhata Pakhwada Pledge was led by L Chuna Phom, brand ambassador, SBM(U) Longleng, and president of the All Ward Union.
Around 500 people attended the programme.
