The 67-year old has suggested that the film industry punishes actors for how they look.
In an interview with The Guardian, she said: “The good news and bad news about Hollywood, is that they’re not political.
“They probably would punish you more for getting overweight or getting old.”
The Tammy actress said she is glad she doesn’t live in Los Angeles because of this image.
“In LA, you can lose a job over a head of lettuce in a supermarket if you’re not all pulled together. You know: ‘I saw her, she’s not looking so good.’”
Sarandon also joked about her more recent movie roles.
“I’m glad I’m kind of out of the dying groove,” she said of her roles playing dying women.
“Then I played three alcoholics in a row,” she added.
Susan Sarandon can be seen next in The Calling, which will be released on October 10.
