Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): Survival Nagaland (SN) appreciated the Kohima village council for their wise decision in resolving not to allow ‘suspected illegal migrants’ reside within its jurisdiction.
“The most important tool to combat the menace of illegal migrants lies in the hands of village councils, which is yet to be practically exercised till date. The respective council and village authorities restrictions on random allotment of residential, commercial buildings and farm lands to ‘suspected illegal migrants’ will be the right measure towards safeguarding our land and economy,” SN convenor Simon Kelio stated in a press release.

He felt that once the village council takes such decision, it should be binding upon all villagers including those village members who have property outside the village jurisdiction. As every Naga respect the authority of their village council, he stated that such binding would eventually cover every Naga landowners in Nagaland.

He has termed as ‘high time’ for every Naga to realise the danger of illegal migrants and safeguard the land and indigenous population from the irreversible threat.

Survival Nagaland further appealed to all village councils and GBs of entire state to follow the exemplary step taken by Kohima village council in leading the state to check the alarming growth of illegal migrants in Nagaland.
