DIMAPUR — Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir joined hundreds of INDIA alliance parliamentarians, including Leaders of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, in a protest march from Parliament House to the Election Commission of India (ECI) office in New Delhi on Monday.
A press release issued by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee stated that the march was organised to oppose the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
The NPCC expressed solidarity with Jamir and other MPs, condemning the ruling government’s refusal to allow a parliamentary discussion on the issue despite repeated demands.
It also criticised what it described as the “high-handed” action of detaining the peaceful protestors midway through their march to the ECI. It accused the Modi government and the ECI of collusion, warning that the SIR exercise not only undermines free and fair elections in Bihar but also threatens to erode the democratic fabric of the nation.
