KOHIMA — The newly elected Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, who has been included in the state government’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) for Naga political issue as a member, has been barred from attending the meeting of the panel without prior consent from PAC-NPCC and the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

This resolution was passed during the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) PAC meeting at Congress Bhavan in Kohima on Friday. It was chaired by Supongmeren Jamir, who is also the president of NPCC, and attended by nine of 12 PAC members.

“On the State Government constituting the Political Affairs Committee to review and discuss all major issues relating to the Naga political issue, the PAC-NPCC appreciates the state government for including the MP (Lok Sabha) and President NPCC, S Supongmeren Jamir, as one of the members,” read the resolution, a copy of which is available with this newspaper.

However, the Congress maintained that it has take a stance on attending the meetings of the panel in view of the various committees being constituted by the state government on the Naga political issue, which it said has become more of rhetoric and repetition without making any headway.

“It was resolved that the MP (LS) will not be a part of any PAC Meeting Resolutions without the consent of the PAC-NPCC and AICC,” it stated.

It may be mentioned that the government of Nagaland, through the Home Department, Political Branch, constituted the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) on June 5, 2024, to review and discuss all major issues relating to the Naga political issue. The panel comprises Members of the Legislative Assembly from various political parties, both members of parliament – Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, with a total of 26 members.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is the Convenor of the PAC, while Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye is the Member Secretary.
