Superspreader event reported at children’s home

Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN):
A superspreader event was reported at a children’s home in Mokokchung, wherein 16 people were tested positive for the Covid-19, thus pushing the district’s weekly sample positivity rate to 8.1%.

However, the overall weekly sample positivity rate in the state has been remaining below 5% for the last 14 weeks, according to the weekly bulletin issued by the department of Health and Family Welfare.

The state recorded 67 new Covid cases from 3,750 samples and three deaths in the week ending November 19, compared to 68 cases and three deaths in the previous week.

The week’s positivity rate remained the same at 1.8% while new admissions in Covid hospitals decreased from 19 in the previous week to 17.

The update stated that the state recorded an average of 4.4 Covid-19 deaths weekly in the last five weeks.

Out of 595 deaths in the second wave, 87% did not receive a second dose and only 1.5% of deaths were fully vaccinated, it was informed.

The update went on to state that “most affected age group is 31-40 years at 34% in 2020 and 21-30-years age group at 26% in 2021”. ‘Majority of the cases, 78% in 2020 and 59% in

2021, are males,’ it added.

In terms of vaccination, 12.51 lakh doses have been administered in the state as on November 19 while 1,02,450 beneficiaries are over-due for the second dose.

“Full protection by the vaccine will only be effective two weeks after the second dose and is critical for preventing hospitalisation and death,” read the bulletin.
