Council to impose blockade of DMC garbage vehicles from August 11
Dimapur, August 10 (EMN): Sunrise colony Burma Camp Dimapur has affirmed its non participation in the recently initiated cleanest colony competition of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) under A Better Dimapur project. This statement directed to the convenor, panel of judges of the cleanest colony competition Dimapur by the Sunrise colony council chairman and secretary was stated in a press note.
Drawing attention of the competition panel, the council informed that the colony is imposing blockade of DMC vehicles carrying garbage from August 11 in connection with demand for shifting of the present dumping ground.
“It is found that Sunrise Colony has been selected as the cleanest colony in Ward No.3 in the Cleanest Colony Competition initiated by DMC. While appreciating the choice of the panel, the council is not aware on what basis our colony has been adjudged as the best colony in the ward as our colony is only known for dumping the entire garbage and excreta of Dimapur town” questioned a press note from the council. The council, further defying the order of Naga Council and district administration not to carry forward the blockade of the DMC vehicles, reiterated that they are determined to carry forward the proposed blockade which the council termed as ‘their right’.
Also, the council questioned the authorisation of Naga Council in issuing such order while reminding the organisation to refer to the guidelines of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The council further requested the Naga Council to support and respect the voice of the directly affected residents of the dumping ground area.
