Sungkotenem festival presents ‘Clash of the bands 2016’

As part of Sungkotenem festival, the two- day Quadrennial mega festival of Mopungchukit village, situated 17 kilometers away from Mokokchung town, the student union of the village, Mopungchukit Ait Laishir Telongjem (MALT), is all geared up to organize ‘Clash of the bands 2016’ open beat contest on December 29,2016. Talking to media persons at a press conference on Thursday, Bendangtemsu Ozukum, organizing committee member said that the beat contest will be a day and night event carrying a total cash prize of 1.20 lakhs. He stated that there will be a screening round for interested bands, who are to submit a demo track (original or cover in) along with Rs. 2000 to the organizers on or before November 25 from where the best twelve bands will be selected for the live auditions at Sungkotenem park from 9:00 am onwards on December 29 by a panel of judges. He also added that out of the twelve bands, only the best seven band will be selected for the grand finale which will be held from 5:00 pm onwards at Sungkotenem park the same evening. He further added that the registration fee (of Rs 2000) will be refunded to those bands who are not selected in the first screening round. Delving on the objective of the student union on organizing the beat contest, he said that the beat contest was conceptualized in the late 90s’ by MALT with an aim to promote Mopungchukit village as a tourist hot spot while promoting music and musicians at the same time. Mentioned may be made that Sungkotenem festival 2016 will be celebrated in two categories: Culture Carnival (Dec 28) and Beat contest (Dec 29) where the side attractions will be food stalls, tattoo stalls, zip-lining, souvenir shops and much more.
