Dimapur, Aug. 11 (EMN): The Sumi Totimi Hoho of Zunheboto town conducted a day seminar at Old Town Sector Church on Aug. 11, with Toli H Kiba and Hokishe Chophy as speakers.
Kiba spoke on the ‘role of women in conflict.’ He said one should try to identify the crisis that one is facing and not only discuss about the crisis of the world.
Stressing on the importance of empowering women, she cited that even in times of war, women intervene the government or other bodies and bring peace. Likewise, she said if women do not stand for their rights then the society will not change. Even in MDGs importance was given on gender equality, children education and various programmes have also been set up by the UN in 2030 sustainable goals, she added.
Stressing on the importance of self help groups (SHG), Kiba maintained that because of SHG domestic violence has decrease, children’s education has improved and women are taking part in decision making.
She further encouraged the members to take a step forward and fight for women’s rights and also play active role such as visiting shelter homes, girls’ hostels and offices and meet officers and get to know about various schemes and program meant for women.
Hokishe Chophy spoke on ‘role of women against HIV.’ Highlighting the HIV scenario in Nagaland, he said according to ART Centre data that there are more than 15000 HIV patients in the state and 212 in Zunheboto district. He also mentioned that there are more than 300 sex workers in the district. He also talked about the role that women can play in prevention of HIV.
Chophy asserted that people should stop discriminating HIV / AIDS patients. He also informed that by 2020, WHO is targeting to make 90% of people to know about the HIV status, 90% to get ART treatment and 90% to have viral suppression.
