DRESSED in their traditional attire to celebrate the real meaning of tradition among the people, people of the Aghunato areas led by the Aghunato Area Union of Dimapur celebrated the Sumi Naga festival ‘Ahuna’ at the Agri Expo site at 4th Mile in Dimapur.Speaking during the post-harvest festival of the community, Member of Legislative Assembly N Jacob I Zhimomi thanked the organization for availing the opportunity the festival offered in bringing the Sumi community together. Addressing the gathering, the legislator urged the community to ‘know their roots, maintain the age-old tradition and educate the present generation with rich culture.’
Emphasizing on the festival, he said Ahuna signifies the festival of post harvest in thanksgiving so he urged upon AAUD to foster peace and unity and said the younger generation of today should be facilitator to build a cohesive atmosphere and be an agent of peace and harmony.
Extending his Ahuna greetings, he also conveyed greetings on behalf of Pukhayi Sumi, Parliamentary Secretary for Sericulture and Co-operation & Women Development.
Some of the major attraction of the festival was a demonstration of the art of fire making, and coockery as demonstrated by the Satami Union of Dimapur. Other presentations of the day were cultural dances, folk songs, and martial arts by Lizutomi Union of Dimapur.
IGP Viccashe, IPS and President of Western Sumi Hoho Hokiye Yepthomi also spoke during the celebration.
