Sumi Hoho observes ‘Martyrs’ Day’

Sumi Hoho officials along with other frontal organisation members on the occasion of the ‘Sumi Martyrs’ Day’ in Zunheboto town on Tuesday.

Dimapur, Dec. 28 (EMN): Sumi Hoho has organised the ‘Sumi Martyrs’ Day-cum- solidarity concert’ at Sumi Martyrs Park in Sukhalu village under Zunheboto district on December 28.

Speaking on the occasion, SH president Nikheto Jimomi lauded all the organisations and concerned Sumi individuals for making it to the programme. Stating that the Sumi community values women the most, he cautioned that harassment against women would not be tolerated. He added that the hoho would continue to fight for justice and rights of women.

He mentioned that the day was observed to commemorate the bravery of three slain persons namely Ninoto, Ghukiye and Paketo. He recalled how way back in 2013 the incident happened. He added that it was now the 7th year of Sumi Martyrs’ Day being observed by the Sumi Hoho.

The programme was chaired by its general secretary, Dr. Vihuto Asumi, while a prayer was said by Rev Dr. Daniel Chishi, pastor of ZTSBC.

The concert programme was chaired by its vice president, Zhevihe Sumi, while a prayer was said by Dr. Hutton Sumi, pastor of SBCZ.

The concert featured artistes such as Yeshika Asumi, Abel Tolivi Asumi, Kivika Achumi, Nity Awomi from Satakha, Vinoka Zhimo from Mokokchung and Mughato H Achumi and Niphuka N Chishi from Zunheboto.

Representatives from Sumi Kukami Hoho (SKH), Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK), Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH), Zunheboto Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI), Zunheboto Area Public Organisation (ZAPO), Zunheboto GBs’ Association (ZGBA), Satakha GBs’ Association (SGBA), and STH Zunheboto unit attended the programme.
