Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): The Sumi community of Old Minister’s Hill in Kohima celebrated a silver jubilee coinciding with the Sumi tribe’s Tuluni festival on July 7 in the residence of the minister for Agriculture and Cooperation G Kaito Aye.
A press release issued by the media and publicity in-charge of the silver Jubilee committee informed that the event was celebrated with the theme “unity and vision is our motto.”
According to the updates, the president of Sumi Hoho of Kohima Dr. Vinito Chishi attended the programme as the event’s special guest.
In his address, Chishi expressed happiness that the Sumi community of Old Minister’s Hill had ‘reached maturity.’
Chishi said that the Sumi people migrated from Zunheboto to various towns and cities in the state for various purposes with some having intermarriage with other tribes and communities.

Hence, he urged the Sumis to maintain good relationship and coordination with other tribes so as to usher better peace and harmony with the different communities.
The advisor for Rural Development Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire was also present during the occasion. Kire stated that unity within the community brings togetherness and mentioned that the occasion was a reminder of a remarkable milestone that they attained.

Kire urged the congregation to continue living in unity and wished Silver Jubilee and Tulini greetings to the congregation.
The establishment of Sumi community at Old Ministers’ Hill in Kohima and celebration of Silver Jubilee was addressed by Jevito Achumi, the convener of the Jubilee Planning Board.

Achumi believed that ‘the objective behind the formation of Sumi Community at old Minister’s Hill in Kohima was to bring unity, peace, security, and help amongst our community and strengthened our people and not only to preserve and protect our rich customs and traditions.’ In commemoration of the Silver Jubilee Celebration, the first chairman of Sumi Community Old Minister’s Hill, Kohima James Wokha Swu released the Silver Jubilee Souvenir.
