DIMAPUR — Pakon Phom, ADC Aghunato, launched the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme on Tuesday at the Community Health Centre Aghunato, under the aegis of the District Health Society, Zunheboto.
According to an update, Dr. Heto Swu, DPO (UIP and RCH) Zunheboto, who delivered the keynote address, provided a brief overview of SUMAN, stating that it is a central government initiative for zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths that aims to commit to achieving the goal of reducing maternal and infant mortality.
He mentioned that SUMAN is a collaborative effort encompassing existing programmes such as Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), and Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). The scheme targets pregnant women, mothers up to six months post-delivery, and sick infants as its beneficiaries.
He emphasised SUMAN’s vision of achieving zero maternal and infant deaths through quality care with dignity and respect, as well as the goal of ensuring quality healthcare at no cost with zero tolerance for denial of service to women and newborns visiting healthcare facilities.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Rika Sumi, medical officer at CHC Aghunato, while Dr. Heroto Yeptho, senior medical officer at CHC Aghunato, delivered the welcome address. The vote of thanks was said by Rosemary Vitoli.
