Sub-junior national judo C’ship in Imphal from today

IMPHAL, August 6

A three-day Sub-Junior National Judo Championship 2013 will be organized by Manipur Judo Association under the aegis of Judo Federation of India (JFI) at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium in Imphal from August 7.Altogether about 500 young judokas, including 300 boys from 20 teams representing 20 states and union territories, are expected to take part in the championship. So far, about 12 teams have already arrived in Imphal while others are on their way, new president of JFI Mukhesh Kumar said.
He also informed that the JFI will be dedicating a running trophy in the name of Manipuri judoka Lourembam Brojeshwori Devi, the first Judoka Olympian of the country, in the national championship following a proposal by Secretary S Indrakumar of Manipur Judo Association.  Brojeshwori, the first Judoka Olympian of the country, passed away at Coimbatore in an accident on July 22.
Besides, the JFI has submitted a plan for the coming 2020 Olympic Games to the Union Ministry of Sports to start producing international judokas. Presently, JFI is targeting to get medals in forthcoming Asian Games and then plan for the Olympics, he added.
