Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): The state government has decided to upgrade health sub-centres in all the districts including Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) to Health and Wellness Centre starting from September. Yoga classes will be introduced in the wellness centres.

This was disclosed by the chief medical officer (CMO) of the District Hospital, Dimapur, Dr. Vikato Kinimi at a programme held to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day at IDBI hall on Sep. 8.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kinimi said physiotherapy is to make ‘normal body normal at all times.’ He maintained that human body will remain healthy if exercise is carried out on a routine affair every day.

Dr. Kinimi stated that ailments such as strokes, disabilities, impairment, inner faults etc would not happen to the body if they are examined regularly. He urged the physiotherapists present at the programme to be ready to work for the overall fitness of the society.

Stating that physiotherapists in Nagaland have great scope in future, Kinimi told the physiotherapists to approach him if they need any help.

“Some of you might be already employed but some of you may not. If you need any help, you can approach me,” Dr. Kinimi told the physiotherapists.

Editor of Nagaland Post, Geoffrey Yaden, who also addressed the gathering, remarked that “we generally forget our wellbeing which is like an engine in a vehicle.” He advised to regularly keep the body monitored in order to prevent harm that could cause severe damage.

Yaden urged the physiotherapists to reach out to people and spread awareness about keeping the body fit. He stressed that their job should not only be directed towards treating people in need but spread the message on the importance of exercise and keeping the body fit.

President of the Nagaland Physiotherapists’ Association (NPA), Dr. Tsukhumong informed that the association was formed in the year 2010. He mentioned that Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP), Nagaland branch, represents the whole of India. Physiotherapist practicing in Nagaland should be registered with NPA and IAP.

State president of IAP, Dr. Tiatula Longkumer told Eastern Mirror that there are around 20 registered physiotherapists in Nagaland. She informed that the IAP Nagaland branch will be publishing the names of registered physiotherapists in a short time.

Tiatula also expressed gratitude to IAP national president, Dr. Sanjeev Jha, and the IAP national head women cell, Dr. Ruchi Varshney, for reposing trust on them to form the IAP state branch.

The event was organised by the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) Nagaland branch in collaboration with Nagaland Physiotherapist Association (NPA).
