Dimapur, Sep. 18 (EMN): The Sao Chang College, Tuensang organied its 43rd Cultural Day, under the theme “Cultural Mosaic”on Monday, Sep. 18 at the College Auditorium.
Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Tuensang, Vikhoto Richa, who graced the event as chief guest, said culture is a way of living that teaches us to understand what is right or wrong in one’s conduct. Traditional norms and customs are the pillar of any society, because it gives a sense of belonging and also helps to maintain one’s identity, he said.
Stating that Nagas have rich cultural heritage and customs which it also taught to possess values like honesty, simplicity, hospitality, respect for elders and dignity of labour, he lamented that “we hardly put to use all these values in our day to day life, and now, with the passage of time those values are diminishing from our society.”
Therefore, he urged that it is high time to protect and preserve the rich valued culture so that “we do not lose our identity in the face of the world.”
Richa also encouraged the students to adopt work culture because the present generation is facing a huge problem of unemployment. To overcome unemployment problem, she insisted that students must cultivate the habit of hard work to sustain in this competitive society.
Principal of the college, Chubasangla, in her short speech exhorted the students to be well-versed about one’s culture and its origin. She said that every cultural item has it rich significance and are also unique in its own ways. She said that our forefather were so intelligent and creative in designing and signifying various cultural items. Students have also been encouraged to learn and valued even other community’s cultural importance for promoting peace and harmonious society.
Folk dance, cock fight competition, and traditional attire displayed were the highlight of the programme.
